Cobh
Cobh, which is located 25km east of Cork City, has a proud maritime heritage. Cobh was the main port from which millions of Irish emigrated in the 1800s and 1900s in search of a better life. Cobh (or Queeenstown as it was known then) was the final stop for the doomed Titanic on its fatal voyage in 1912 and it is also the final resting place of many of the victims of the Lusitania sinking in 1915.
The town itself is very pretty and has great views of Cork Harbour. The magnificent St. Colman’s Cathedral overlooks the town and dominates the pretty view on offer to the thousands of visitors arriving to the town by cruise liner each year.
